Academy World Languages |
Upper School |
| Through our own programs and those provided by the coordinate relationship with Brunswick School, Greenwich Academy is able to offer instruction in five modern langauges: Arabic (Upper School), Chinese (Upper School), French (Middle and Upper School), Italian (Upper School) and Spanish (Lower, Middle and Upper Schools). Modern Languages are taught primarily in the target language and emphasis is equally placed on developing essential skills for communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing, in culturally appropriate contexts. Instruction is also offered in Latin (Middle and Upper School) and Ancient Greek (Upper School). Students with a strong interest in classical languages may earn a classical diploma. The study of Languages can never be isolated from the cultural contexts in which languages are experienced. All of our classes, therefore, from the most elementary to the most advanced levels are taught within cultural contex: customs, traditions, history and art are always an integral part of language classes at Greenwich Academy. Lastly, keeping in mind the need to address as many learning styles as possible, in addition to teaching skills, we make extensive use of many sorts of audio/video technologies: computer/internet resources, VCR's, DVD players, Compact Disc players enable our teachers to provide students with the wide variety of media that enhance language acquisition. |
